About This Dog Ice Cream Recipe
This is one of my go-to recipes to treat my dog to a cooling snack during the heat of summer. One recipe makes enough ice cream to last the entire summer, and you can scoop it into silicone molds to pre-portion it. However, I usually freeze the recipe in one container to keep things simple.
Additionally, this 5-ingredient recipe can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your dog’s preferences, the occasion, or what’s in season. Simply substitute dog-friendly fruits or veggies, such as shaved carrots, diced apples, bananas, peas, or even cranberries in place of the blueberries.
A Healthy Ice Cream Made for Your Dog’s Digestion
I always try to make my dogs recipes that do double duty. This recipe is one that does more than that–it provides dogs with a snack that tastes great, cools them down from the inside, provides a boost of vitamins, and supports healthy digestion. Here’s how this healthy ice cream helps your dog’s tummy:
- Yogurt provides your dog with probiotics, beneficial microbes that help break down food.
- Pumpkin, blueberries, and peanut butter are high-fiber ingredients that help regulate digestion.
- Vroomies are made with sweet potato and pumpkin for even more fiber and protein-packed grubs for digestive enzymes.
Other Nutritional Benefits of Peanut Butter Pumpkin Ice Cream

Blueberries are a dog superfood. They’re packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They’re also low in calories.
Pumpkin isn’t far behind blueberries in its nutritional benefits for your best friend. Pumpkin is an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and E, along with iron, copper, manganese, and potassium–which support cell function, brain function, and skin health. Plus, pumpkin contains beta-carotene which boosts eye health, immunity, and coat health.
In addition to being a great source of healthy probiotics, yogurt is also rich in calcium for healthy skeletal health.
How to Make Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Ice Cream

If I could rename this recipe, I would call it “Easy-Peasy Peanut Butter-Pumpkin Pleasey.” Why? It’s extremely easy to make, and it’s sure to please your pup. You can throw the recipe together in a matter of minutes. After that, all you have to do is pop it in the freezer overnight.
Ingredients
- 16 ounces of plain or Greek yogurt
- 3 tablespoons of unsweetened creamy peanut butter
- ½ cup of unsweetened pumpkin puree
- ½ cup of blueberries
- 1 handful of Vroomies
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, peanut butter, and pumpkin puree.
- Mix until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
- Gently fold in most of the blueberries and the crumbled Vroomies.
- Pour into a freezer-safe container or popsicle molds.
- Top with remaining blueberries and a few more crumbled Vroomies.
- Freeze overnight and watch your dog enjoy!

The result of this recipe is delightfully orange ice cream with beautiful whole blueberries and dark swirls of Vroomies for added excitement. Keep in mind, this DIY ice cream is icier if you use regular plain yogurt rather than Greek yogurt. Which is better for your dog? I opt for plain yogurt since it’s lower in calories. However, Greek yogurt has more probiotics, which is great if your dog could benefit from more digestive support.
For creamier ice cream, you can also opt to freeze the mixture for just a few hours, rather than overnight. One benefit of using molds is that the ice cream is easier to portion.
