The active ingredient, saponin, of the yucca plant has been known to bind and stay bound to ammonia, a gas that negatively impacts bird respiratory and overall health.

A smelly coop is unpleasant but not the larger issue. Excessive moisture and ammonia have negative impacts on respiratory health. Our formula is designed to target both. Zeolite and aragonite soak up odor-causing liquids. We also use an active ingredient from the yucca plant that has been known specifically to bind to ammonia, neutralizing the most impactful gas. The peppermint and eucalyptus oils are known to be cooling to the respiratory system while also deterring pests.

Aragonite is a type of calcium carbonate. This carbon negative substance has been proven effective at minimizing the amount of harmful pests and parasites like mites. It adds additional support by effectively minimizing excess moisture in coop. Because it is carbon negative, it's far more sustainable than most other coop deodorizers, especially ones that use calcite as a main ingredient.

It’s a fine powder so they are not likely to, however it is non-toxic and contains aragonite, which is a source of calcium, so it will not do any harm.

Coop Conditioner is formulated specifically for coops and uses 5 ingredients to improve not only pest control and moisture levels but respiratory health as well. Diatomaceous earth is used mostly as a natural pesticide. It is highly absorbent and has an abrasive texture, both of which are harmful to pests. It’s a single ingredient made from fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms.
While Diatomaceous earth is naturally occurring, it can contain crystalline silica which is a known respiratory carcinogen. This has been linked to lung cancer in small animals but not humans. Because it is abrasive, it can cause irritation to lungs (and nostrils for humans). While still widely accepted as a safe alternative to chemical pesticides, it wasn’t formulated specifically for the health of flocks.
Coop conditioner uses aragonite and zeolite to promote dryness, and yucca which binds specifically to ammonia. All ingredients are naturally occurring, non-toxic, non-abrasive and do no harm if breathed or consumed. We also use eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and yucca which promotes respiratory health. In terms of pests, they don’t like any of the five ingredients, so all bases are covered with Coop Conditioner.
