    Finely shredded hemp bedding

I really like this hemp bedding, especially for raising chicks. It’s a nice, finely shredded size and is very soft and absorbent. It keeps the brooder smelling fresh for longer.

    Best Hemp

I have tried so many hemp bedding brands because of the varying cut size and our preference on cleaning technique and frequency. Hemp bedding is expensive but its a worthwhile investment in our flock that we will not go without. Its our go to for the nesting boxes as well year round and run and coop floor bedding in the colder months. I am so excited the cut size returned to the smaller particle which is perfect to reduce waste when sifting. Thank you Grubblies!!!

We are extra when it comes to our flock but this winter we finally found our new master combo. First, our run base are paver blocks on a foundation of sand and 1" stone for reference (see pic - just noticed the Grubblies probiotic in the pic lol

). 2" of Perfect Chicken Sand and top with 2-3" Grubblies Hemp bedding has worked for us. The sand helps with drainage and acts as a flow agent while sifting. There is extra cushion for feet and joints when jumping down off roosts. And the hemp is warmer for them in the winter time. In the nesting boxes, its easy to clean up any poop and saves instead of going through nesting pads more frequently because of messes or being picked at.

The ladies also consume some of the hemp through their daily hunt and pecking which enhances their yolk color. We always keep at least one bag on hand to refresh areas as needed.

Side note: The dust free/minimal is a huge plus for respiratory care. But as we all know, from dust bathing, dust/dirt particles will eventually accumulate…

Thank you so much for this incredible review, Nicole! We're absolutely thrilled to hear how much thought and care you put into creating the perfect setup for your flock. Your layered system with the Perfect Chicken Sand and Hemp Bedding sounds amazing - and we love that you captured our probiotic making a cameo in the photo! It's wonderful to know the smaller cut size is working perfectly for your sifting technique and that you're seeing those beautiful enhanced yolk colors. We're so happy our Hemp Bedding has become such an essential part of your year-round flock care routine. Thanks for sharing all these fantastic details and for being such dedicated chicken parents! 💚

FAQ
  • Hemp hurd is the woody core of the hemp plant, which is highly absorbent, odor-resistant, and compostable.

  • The frequency of hemp bedding replacement will depend on how you manage your flock. As a general guideline, hemp bedding should be replaced when its full absorbency has been reached. The litter will no longer fluff up when you stir it, and it will feel heavier than dry hemp bedding. The number of chickens you have, the size of their coop, how much time the birds spend inside the coop, and feces management systems will all impact the longevity of the hemp bedding.

  • One bag will cover about 20 square feet with a 2 inch depth.

  • Absolutely! Hemp Bedding is excellent for all types of poultry, goats, horses, mice & rats, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, pigs, cows, and rabbits.

  • Absolutely! Hemp hurd is biodegradable and excellent for your compost pile. It contains high levels of nitrogen, carbon, and other nutrients that improve soil fertility and plant growth.

  • Unlike most trees that would be used as bedding material, Hemp is a fast-growing crop that does not require pesticides, herbicides, or excessive water. It also lasts longer than traditional bedding, creating less demand for raw materials.By choosing hemp hurd as bedding for your pet chickens, you are caring for your feathered friends and the environment.

  • Yes! Hemp bedding is all natural and is safe for chickens if they accidentally consume some of the hemp hurds. Even though hemp bedding comes from the same family of plants as marijuana, it does not contain significant levels of the psychoactive elements found in cannabis plants. Our hemp bedding is suitable for chicks 1 week and older. To reduce the risk of impaction, please provide chick grit to aid in digestion while using bedding.

  • No. Hemp bedding does not attract pests, rather, quite the opposite. Hemp hurds contain natural pesticides calledcaryophyllene and humulene. These compounds enable the plant to be grown without insecticides since they naturally repel pests and parasites.
