    Best bedding

    I have used every type of bedding there is. Each time, I like certain things about them, but then there are drawbacks. Straw is great for insulation, but it is hard to separate droppings from it. The 2 types of shavings I used smelled great, but when mixed into the sand in the run, they made it harder to scoop the run, and both were inconsistent when it came to dust. They were also too big to sift, so I would either have to try to roll the poop out, do some fluffing with the broom to coax the poop out, or change it all out, making it not last as long.

    I have now tried 3 different brands of hemp. I prefer it to all other bedding, but the first 2 brands I tried were really inconsistent in quality. I had moldy bags and bags with tons of dirt. TS and the feed store we have don't carry hemp, so I had to order it. Getting a giant bag of moldy hemp, so I had to return it and wait for another to be delivered, was the most frustrated I have been. I had completely given up on hemp because of this.

    I just recently found Grubby Farms from a YouTube video and thought I would give 1 last shot at getting good hemp. I have now had 3 bags delivered, and all were very clean, no mold, no dirt, and extremely low, if any, dust. The cut means I can actually sift out the poop in the coop, making it last longer and smell so much better. The girls love it and so do I. I'm so absolutely thrilled I found Grubbly Farms for this reason alone.

    Goodbye dust

    I’ve been really pleased with this hemp bedding. I actually use it in the litter tray under the roosts. I was previously using Stall Dry. It kept the smell away and it was easy to clean every morning but the dust was insane. So happy I made the switch. Hemp is just as easy to clean (cat scoop) and with the Coop Conditioner, the coop smells clean. I’m happy and I’m sure my ladies are too.

    Love this stuff

    It’s so much better than pine shavings in the hen house. It really absorbs the waste and the conditioner helps to keep things fresh.

    Very impressed!

    I am so impressed by these products! I had high hopes for the hemp bedding, and it exceeded all of my expectations! It’s so fluffy and virtually dust-free. The coop conditioner smells so good! I can’t attest to its longevity, as I just started using it today, but I’m excited to see how it goes. Thank you, Grubbly Farms, for making such great AND sustainable products!

  • Hemp hurd is the woody core of the hemp plant, which is highly absorbent, odor-resistant, and compostable.

  • The frequency of hemp bedding replacement will depend on how you manage your flock. As a general guideline, hemp bedding should be replaced when its full absorbency has been reached. The litter will no longer fluff up when you stir it, and it will feel heavier than dry hemp bedding. The number of chickens you have, the size of their coop, how much time the birds spend inside the coop, and feces management systems will all impact the longevity of the hemp bedding. 

  • One bag will cover about 20 square feet with a 2 inch depth.

  • The active ingredient, saponin, of the yucca plant has been known to bind and stay bound to ammonia, a gas that negatively impacts bird respiratory and overall health.

  • Aragonite is a type of calcium carbonate. This carbon negative substance has been proven effective at minimizing the amount of harmful pests and parasites like mites. It adds additional support by effectively minimizing excess moisture in coop. Because it is carbon negative, it's far more sustainable than most other coop deodorizers, especially ones that use calcite as a main ingredient.
