• How does Fresh Pecks layer feed compare to other feeds?

  Grubbly feeds are made to power our pets and the planet for years to come. Rather than using fillers like corn and traditional protein like soy or fishmeal, Fresh Pecks is made with sustainably grown black soldier fly grubs - a powerhouse protein that's better for them, and the planet. Our grubs are packed with nutrients and naturally harvested (no hormones, pesticides, or funky byproducts). Plus, chickens naturally forage for insects and plants, so Fresh Pecks is filled with farm-fresh grubs, vegetables and whole grains to nourish our feathered friends with foods they naturally love!

• Which Fresh Pecks texture is right for my flock?

  While all three recipes are packed with the exact same grub-based protein and farm-fresh nutrition, the "mouthfeel" makes a big difference depending on your flock’s eating habits. Here is a quick guide to matching the feed to the hen:

  1. Pellets

  • Best for: The "Messy Eaters" & Large Flocks.
  • Why choose it: If you often find a lot of powdered feed spilled on the ground Pellets are your best friend. Because they are compact cylinders, they are harder for chickens to flick out of the feeder.
  • Big Bonus: They prevent "selective eating." In loose mixes, clever hens sometimes pick out the tasty grain bits and leave the essential vitamins at the bottom of the bowl. With Pellets, every bite is a complete, balanced meal.

  2. Crumbles

  • Best for: Small Breeds (Bantams/Silkies) & The "Average" Eater.
  • Why choose it: This is the universal crowd-pleaser. It has a texture similar to granola crumbs. It’s small enough for petite beaks to handle easily but substantial enough to peck at.
  • Big Bonus: If you have a mixed flock of large and small birds, Crumbles are the safest middle ground that everyone can eat without struggle.

  3. Textured Mix

  • Best for: The "Foragers" & Enrichment Lovers
  • Why choose it: This is a loose feed where you can actually see the individual whole grains, dried veggies, and grubs. It mimics what chickens would find in the wild.
  • Big Bonus: It provides mental stimulation! Hens love scratching through the mix to find different textures.

• Why would I need to supplement with Prebiotics + Probiotics?

  Prebiotics + Probiotics for chickens ensures optimal gut health for healthy digestion and nutrient absorption. That matters because an imbalanced gut can prevent your chicken from expending energy where it wants to most, whether that be increasing egg production, coming out of molt, or other factors that contribute to its ability to thrive, like fighting sickness.  When the body is fighting pathogens in the gut, their body is excreting more nutrients and liquid than it wants to. Ninety percent of diseases can be traced back to gut health and the microbiome.  

• What makes your grubs special?

  All of our Grubblies are US FDA approved and sustainably raised under EU standards, the highest standards for growing insects in the world. As our grubs grow, they consume a diet of pre-consumer fruits, veggies, and grains that would otherwise go to waste. Every harvest of protein-rich grubs is then oven-dried without preservatives or additives.

• I already use Grubblies. How do I use Omega Mix? 

  Flock owners can use them differently or similarly; it just depends on your goals and feeding habits. You can use Omega Mix as a supplement to aid in omega-enriched eggs. You can also simply embrace the nutrient-dense variety in the mix and use it as a healthy snack. Whether you’re on a mission to bolster the nutrient value in your eggs or simply mix up your snack game, your chickens will be thrilled either way.   

  If you’re hoping to naturally aid in increasing omega content in eggs, we’d recommend following the feeding guide and mixing into feed.   

  If you’re using as a snack, we recommend alternating it with Grubblies. They’re a nice treat for hand feeding, scattering on the ground for free ranging, or a little something special to get them back to the coop, just as you probably use Grubblies!   

• Can ducks, geese, turkeys, wild birds, and other feathered friends eat Grubblies and Omega Mix?

  Yes! Grubblies and Omega Mix are fantastic snacks for all types of birds. While Grubblies can be fed to chicks (1-2 pinches daily), Omega Mix is intended for adult birds only.
